Environment Artist (Houdini) – Mid/Senior

Location: Brussels, Belgium
Contract: Freelance
Duration: available as soon as possible

We are looking for an experienced Houdini Environment Artist to join our CG team and create high-quality digital environments for film and episodic VFX projects.

The ideal candidate combines a strong artistic eye with solid procedural skills in Houdini. You will be responsible for building, scattering and refining complex natural and architectural environments, from early layout through to final render-ready assets.

Responsibilities

  • Create photorealistic natural and architectural environments using Houdini.
  • Build procedural systems for terrain generation, vegetation, rocks, debris and environmental variation.
  • Assemble and manage large-scale environments efficiently.
  • Generate and optimise geometry for both foreground and background elements.
  • Create procedural scattering and instancing systems.
  • Integrate environments with supplied plates, LiDAR scans, photogrammetry and layout scenes.
  • Prepare environment assets for lighting and rendering.
  • Collaborate closely with VFX Supervisors, CG Supervisors, FX, Lighting and Compositing teams.
  • Respond to creative and technical feedback while maintaining visual consistency.
  • Troubleshoot performance, scene complexity and render-related issues.
  • Contribute to the development of reusable tools and efficient environment workflows.

Profile

  • Strong professional experience with Houdini, particularly SOP-based procedural workflows.
  • A strong portfolio demonstrating photorealistic environment work.
  • Good understanding of terrain creation, procedural modelling, scattering and instancing.
  • Experience creating natural elements such as landscapes, vegetation, rocks, snow, ruins or urban environments.
  • Strong understanding of scale, composition, lighting, colour and atmospheric perspective.
  • Ability to work with large and complex datasets while keeping scenes efficient.
  • Understanding of VFX production workflows and the requirements of downstream departments.
  • Ability to balance artistic quality with production constraints.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team.

We are looking for someone who is both technically resourceful and visually driven.

You should be comfortable creating procedural systems, but also know when to move beyond the technical setup and focus on the final image. You enjoy solving complex environment challenges and can take ownership of a shot or asset from initial brief through to delivery.

If you are interested to apply, you can send us your resumé, availibility, and a portfolio/showreel highlighting your Houdini environment work at the mail address: hiring@ufxstudios.com.
